WOOSTER, Ohio – The Wittenberg men's tennis team closed out the 2012-13 regular season with a hard-fought 6-3 win over the College of Wooster in a match moved indoors to Shelmar Tennis and Fitness Club due to cold temperatures.

Wittenberg heads into the 2013 North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Tournament with an overall record of 15-6 after beating Wooster in an inter-divisional match that did not count toward regular season league standings. The Scots fell to 5-14.

The match started with Wittenberg taking two of three doubles matches as sophomore Ian Streicker (South Lebanon, Ohio/Loveland) and junior Joe Marra (Great Falls, Mont./Great Falls) won at No. 2 and sophomore twins Sasha and Alexey Topolyanskiy (Moscow, Russia) were victorious at No. 3.

In singles, Wittenberg won the first four flights to clinch the team win. Streicker, freshman Stas Pakhomov (Richmond, British Columbia/Sir Winston Churchill) and Alexey Topolyanskiy all won in straight sets, while Sasha Topolyanskiy came up with a three-set victory at No. 3. Both singles losses for the Tigers were decided by tiebreakers after the players split the first two sets.
