Goals Pile Up In Victory Over Hiram

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – The Wittenberg women's lacrosse team hosted Hiram College for the first time on Saturday, coming away with an 18-3 victory to improve to 9-2 overall and 5-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference.

The win extended a regular season NCAC winning streak to 18 consecutive games, and kept the Tigers perfect heading into the home stretch, which features home contests versus DePauw on Tuesday, April 15, at 6 p.m., and Denison on Friday, April 18, at 7 p.m.

The Tigers then hit the road for the final conference game at Oberlin at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 23. The regular season concludes on Sunday, April 27, at 1 p.m. at home against non-conference opponent Carthage.

While the goal tally was large for the Tigers, it was well spread, as 15 of the 19 players that saw time on the field finished with at least one score. Junior Beth Hubbard (West Hartford, Conn./Notre Dame de Sion (Mo.)), senior Francine Murzysnki (Mentor, Ohio/Lake Catholic) and freshman Anna Tarbutton (Gahanna, Ohio/Lincoln) were the only Tigers with multiple goals, counting two each.

Sophomore Olivia Lash (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/Cleveland Heights) provided three assists in the game on top of one goal to lead the team with four points while junior Mary Ann White (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral) paced the attack with six shots.

Hubbard and Murzynski each added an assist to compile three points, a total matched by senior Alie Marousek (Ballston Lake, NY/Portsmouth (NH)) on one goal and two assists. Freshman Becca Joseph (Toledo, Ohio/St. Ursula) and junior Logan Warye (Maineville, Ohio/Kings) both scored once and assisted once for two points apiece.

Other goal scorers for Wittenberg included Mallory Skrobot with her first collegiate goal, freshman Kelsey Mack (Marysville, Ohio/Marysville), junior Megan Loofbourrow (Prospect, Ky./Ballard), sophomore Carrie Kubasta (Medina, Ohio/Medina), White, senior Alex Dressman (Cincinnati, Ohio/Ursuline), freshman Haley Schroeder (Granville, Ohio/Granville) and sophomore Katie Reuter (Cleveland, Ohio/Hathaway Brown), who started the game in goal and made one save against one goal allowed in 30 minutes.

Sophomore Maddy Kelly (Columbus, Ohio/Bexley) played the balance of the game in front of the net, making one save against two goals allowed in 30 minutes.

Freshman Pearl Ernat (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/Shaker Heights) picked up an assist, and sophomore Bri Murphy (Reading, Conn./Joel Barlow) and sophomore Sara Ellis (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich./Grosse Pointe South) played lock-down defense for the Tigers.

For the game, Wittenberg carried advantages of 35-5 in shots, 19-4 in draw controls and 18-3 in ground balls.
