GRANVILLE, OH. – Wittenberg's men's soccer team played tough against No. 3-ranked Denison, but fell short of a victory on Saturday, Oct. 18, at Kienzle-Hylbert Stadium in a North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) contest.
The Big Red, who were on the hunt for a win after losing its first game of the season to conference rival DePauw 1-0 earlier in the week, scored one in the first and another in the second to take down the Tigers, 2-0.
Denison scored the first at the 21:28 mark and the second at 72:36 into the game. Wittenberg couldn't muster up any offense against a strong Denison defense, being held to a total of five shots, only one on goal. The Big Red had 18 total shots, five on goal, while amassing 13 corner kicks to just one for Witt. Denison also tallied two assists and one goalie save. Each team had 10 fouls.
Wittenberg goalkeeper Sam Nitzberg (Cincinnati, OH / Cincinnati Country Day) registered three saves on 18 shots faced. Cameron Corey (Lancaster, OH / Amanda-Clearcreek) led the team in shots with two in the game.
With the loss, the Tigers drop to 7-3-5 on the season and 0-3-2 in the NCAC. Denison improves to 11-1-2 overall and 3-1-1 in the NCAC.
