With an extensive background in teaching, counseling and coaching in Springfield and Clark County, Jim is commonly known as “The Coach.” He played basketball for Springfield South and went on to a stellar career at Anderson University, where he was named All-Ohio & All-Indiana in the Hoosier Buckeye Conference. He scored 1,332 points, was named MVP, and represented the United States with Sports Ambassadors on tours to South America and the British West Indies.

Scoby followed his playing career with coaching success at all levels. Scoby coached at the University of Dayton from 1985 to 1989, where the Flyers played in the NCAA tournament and the National Invitational Tournament (NIT). He then assisted the Wittenberg men's basketball program during the 1989-90 season, which saw the Tigers achieve a record of 29-2 and a trip to the Elite 8 in the NCAA Division III national tournament. In 1991, Coach Scoby created Hoops Unlimited, a basketball program for inner-city Springfield youth, and eventually took his program abroad to China, Canada, and Spain.

Behind the mic, Scoby has contributed to select Wittenberg football and basketball broadcasts on the Tiger Sports network as a color commentator. His resume also includes play-by-play and color experience for Springfield-area high school football and basketball, a position co-hosting the Springfield Sports Scene on WBLY and WULM from 1995 to 2008, and time as Sports Director at WULM from 2006 to 2008. Currently, Jim hosts the Sports Roundtable every Thursday on WUSO 89.1-fm The Berg and the Tiger Sports Network from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at O’Conners Irish Pub in Springfield. The show covers a wide range of local sports, from high school and college football in the fall, to basketball in the winter and baseball and softball in the spring. When the Coach is not producing Clark County High School Football Friday on WUSO, he is the color analyst for GWOC football and basketball on WONE 980 AM sports radio in Dayton.
