Wittenberg Wins 28th NCAC Women's Volleyball Tournament Title
SPRINGFIELD, OH - Wittenberg Women's Volleyball is back where it belongs – at the top of the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC).
The Tigers completed a unique season sweep of NCAC competition with a 3-0 win over John Carroll in the league tournament title match in Pam Evans Smith Arena. Wittenberg, the tournament's No. 1 seed, ran through the NCAC regular season schedule with a perfect 7-0 record and followed that with two more wins in the NCAC Tournament – all without dropping a single set.
The win was Wittenberg's 12th in a row and moved the Tigers to 20-7 overall on the 2025 season, and it also secured a berth in the NCAA Division III Tournament. The NCAC Tournament title was Wittenberg's league-leading 28th since joining the conference in 1989, and the NCAA Division III Tournament appearance will be the 29th in program history.
"From the opening set, our group played with FAITH and urgency that set the tone," said Wittenberg Women's Volleyball Head Coach Evelyn Miller. "We executed with purpose, distributed the ball effectively, and never flinched in big moments. This wasn't just a win, it was a statement about who we are and how far we've come."
The loss dropped second-seeded John Carroll to 21-9. The Blue Streaks, in their first year as a member of the NCAC, lost twice to Wittenberg on the Tigers' home court in Pam Evans Smith Arena.
Wittenberg led from wire to wire in the first two sets, securing a big lead by scores of 25-17 and 25-20. In the third set, the Tigers were forced to rally after falling behind 8-3 in the early going, eventually inching ahead to secure a 25-22 set win and the match victory.
Wittenberg's offense was limited to an attack percentage of .154, well off the numbers the Tigers have been accustomed to posting in recent weeks. But Wittenberg played stellar team defense for a second straight day, led by senior libero Ally White (Harrison, OH / Harrison) with 13 digs and sophomore setter Mary Sulfridge (South Charleston, OH / Southeastern) with 10 digs. The Tigers were charged with just two serve receive errors in the entire match.
Sulfridge dished out 30 assists to steer the offense successfully, with senior outside hitter Kaili Worcester (Powell, OH / Olentangy Liberty) her favorite target, finishing with 11 a match-high 11 kills. Junior outside hitters Kait Colahan (Vermilion, OH / Vermilion) and Sam Fincham (Springfield, OH / Kenton Ridge) added nine kills apiece, while Clare O'Malley (Avon, OH / St. Joseph's Academy) attacked through the middle at a .312 clip on eight kills in 16 swings. Colahan and White earned NCAC All-Tournament honors, along with Worcester, who was furthered recognized as the Tournament MVP.
Wittenberg will learn its NCAA Division III Tournament itinerary on Monday, Nov. 17.
