Tigers Sweep Past Denison in NCAC Tournament Semifinals
SPRINGFIELD, OH - Wittenberg Women's Volleyball continued its late-season surge with a sweep of visiting Denison in the semifinals of the 2025 North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Tournament. The Tigers were dominant in all three sets against the Big Red, who knocked Wittenberg out in the same round of the tournament a year ago, as they cruised to a 3-0 win by set scores of 25-11, 25-14, 25-18.
The win moved the top-seeded players Tigers, who posted a perfect 7-0 record in the NCAC regular season, into the NCAC Tournament championship match for a league-record 29th time. Wittenberg will take on NCAC newcomer John Carroll, the second seed in the tournament, at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, also in Wittenberg's Pam Evans Smith Arena, in search of a league-record 28th NCAC Tournament title.
Wittenberg never trailed in any of the three sets. In the opener, the Tigers raced out to a 6-0 lead before the Big Red finally dented the scoreboard, and they never looked back. The second and third sets offered more of the same as Wittenberg separated early and never allowed Denison any closer than three points.
Offensively, the Tigers attacked at a solid .252 clip, led by the efficient play of Kait Colahan (Vermilion, OH / Vermilion), who piled up 13 kills against zero errors on 23 attempts for a robust .565 attack percentage. Kaili Worcester (Powell, OH / Olentangy Liberty) added 10 kills to go along with 10 digs, and Sam Fincham (Springfield, OH / Kenton Ridge) chipped in with six kills on 17 swings.
Mary Sulfridge (South Charleston, OH / Southeastern) was solid as ever with 26 assists, and Ally White (Harrison, OH / Harrison) spearheaded a tremendous team defensive performance with 19 digs. Also of note, Madelyn Luers (Liberty Township, OH / Lakota East) led with four total blocks and Bryn Wilhelmus (Louisville, KY / Mercy Academy) led in serving with three aces.
The win was Wittenberg's 10th in a row as the Tigers improved to 19-7 overall. Denison saw its season come to an end with a record of 14-16.
