Tigers Open NCAC Schedule With Sweep Of Oberlin
Wittenberg kicks off league slate with 35th straight win over Yeowomen and 36th straight NCAC regular season victory since 2010.
SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers made short work of visiting Oberlin in a 3-0 sweep in the first North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) match for either team in the 2013 season.
Wittenberg, ranked No. 13 in the nation, evened its record at 5-5 overall, while Oberlin dropped to 4-9. It was the Tigers' 36th straight NCAC victory, dating back to 2010, and it was Wittenberg's 35th consecutive win over Oberlin, dating back to 1989.
A total of 16 players saw action in the match for Wittenberg, which will host a tri-match with league rival Wooster and Heidelberg on Saturday. Everyone contributed as the Tigers picked up set victories by scores of 25-15, 25-17, 25-17.
Reigning NCAC Player of the Week, junior setter Meghan Vodopich (Canton, Ohio/Massillon Perry), was solid again with 25 assists and three service aces. Her favorite target was senior Andrea Behling (Columbus, Ind./North), who pounded nine kills and finished with a .333 attack percentage.
In addition, sophomore Kara Seidenstricker (London, Ohio/Jonathan Alder) and freshman Emily Kahlig (Coldwater, Ohio/Coldwater) contributed six kills each. Sophomore Katie Zito (Canton, Ohio/Massillon Jackson) led the Tiger defense with 13 digs.
