Tigers Take Another Straight Set Win At Power Weekend
The Wittenberg volleyball team took two more straight set wins on Day Two of the North Coast Athletic Conference Power Weekend at Allegheny, setting down Kenyon by scores of 25-12, 25-21 and 25-21 and Wooster by scores of 25-18, 25-21 and 25-13. The Tigers finish the first NCAC weekend with a perfect 4-0 mark in league action and an 8-3 record overall, taking all 12 sets they played.

MEADVILLE, Penn.- The Wittenberg volleyball team took two more straight set wins on Day Two of the North Coast Athletic Conference Power Weekend at Allegheny, setting down Kenyon by scores of 25-12, 25-21 and 25-21 and Wooster by scores of 25-18, 25-21 and 25-13. The Tigers finish the first NCAC weekend with a perfect 4-0 mark in league action and an 8-3 record overall, taking all 12 sets they played.
In the day's first game against Kenyon, freshman setter Jordan Mungovan (Fort Wayne, Ind./Concordia Lutheran) led the way with 27 assists and four aces. She helped set up sophomore middle hitter Katie Sumner (Dublin, Ohio/Watterson), who paced the team with seven kills, and was again a force at the net with three solo blocks and eight assists.
Sophomore outside hitter Ellen Kortesoja (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron) tallied five kills in the match, while freshman libero Kelli Axner (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman) posted 12 digs.
In the afternoon match with Wooster, the Tigers delivered more of the same from some different names. junior right side hitter Amy Cox (Newark, Ohio/Catholic) topped the list with 10 kills and a .318 hitting percentage, also chipping in two block assists. Senior middle hitter Kate Snead (Westerville, Ohio/South) was right behind with nine kills on an impressive .600 hitting percentage, thanks to an error-free attack.
The Wooster match saw sophomore outside hitter Christine Simpson (Dublin, Ohio/Scioto) step to the net and deliver three solo blocks and two assists, while peppering the floor with eight kills.
In the passing game, sophomore outside hitter Hannah Riley (Minerva, Ohio/Minerva) tallied 21 digs to lead all players, followed by sophomore hitter Kimmie Dyer (Copley, Ohio/Copley), who posted 17. Senior setter Erin Slattery (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Kenston) led all players with 22 assists, joined by Mungovan's 15.
The Tigers take their conference momentum into a Wednesday, Sept. 30 rematch with Kenyon in the friendly confines of Pam Evans Smith Arena in Springfield, set to begin at 7 p.m.
