Tigers Close in on NCAC Regular Season Crown
The Wittenberg volleyball team took another step toward yet another North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) regular season title with a 3-0 victory over Kenyon College to move to 12-0 in the NCAC.
GAMBIER, Ohio - The Wittenberg volleyball team took another step toward yet another North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) regular season title with a 3-0 victory over Kenyon College to move to 12-0 in the NCAC. In their victory, the Tigers showcased some of their younger talent en route to a 25-9, 25-12, 25-12 win.
Looking to tune-up for a busy upcoming weekend, the Tigers totaled 10 aces as a team. In the kills department, a trio of freshmen took control of the match, with Kimmie Dyer (Copley, Ohio/Copley) pounding down 10 kills, while Ellen Kortesoja (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron) and Elyse Adams (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson)had six kills each.
Defensively, the Tigers received 15 digs from senior libero Laura Fender (Toledo, Ohio/St. Ursula). The Tigers, ranked fifth nationally, have moved within a match of clinching at least a share of the NCAC regular season title and the right to host the NCAC tournament.
The strong performance leads Wittenberg into a busy weekend in which the Tigers will host Allegheny, Hiram and Capital on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 24 and 25.
