Another Record Falls in Busy Weekend for Track and Field
This weekend, the Wittenberg women's track and field team was represented at two different meets, none of which had team scores. On Friday, the Tigers competed at the Heartland Invitational at the Indiana State Fairgrounds and competed at Tiffin in the Tiffin Robinson Family Open on Saturday.
At the Heartland Invitational, the only events that featured Wittenberg women were the 600-meter and 5000-meter races. In the 600 meters, Abbey Danne (Johnstown, OH / Big Walnut) finished in eighth place overall and set a new program record, crossing the finish line in 1:38.92. In the 5000 meters, Maddi Clark (Mentor, OH / Mentor) was the first Tiger finisher, as she took 12th with a time of 18:14.62.
At Tiffin, the women performed well by picking up a few top five finishes at the meet. Morgan Hunter (Rockford, OH / Parkway) took third in the 60 meters while My'Ana Yancey (Canal Winchester, OH / Groveport-Madison) was fourth in times of 7.95 and 7.97, respectively. Rachel Lahrmer (Sagamore Hills, OH / Nordonia) was the next top-five finisher for the Tigers as she took fifth in the 3000 meters, running a 12:21.57. In the field events, Kerrington Harper (Mason, OH / Mason) earned second place in the high jump with a mark of 1.57 meters. Jenna Delp (Canton, OH / GlenOak) lept to a mark of 4.88 meters in the long jump for a fifth place finish.
Next week, the women will compete in the Wittenberg Invite and celebrate senior recognition day on February 21st, with events beginning at 11:00 a.m.
