Busy Tigers Compete In Three Events, Uher Wins Decathlon
The Wittenberg track and field teams had quite a weekend. After an unscored Denison meet, the Tiger women finished fourth at Wilmington and finished sixth at the North Coast Athletic Conference combined events championship at Oberlin, while the men were seventh at Wilmington and topped the field at the NCAC combined meet.
SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — The Wittenberg track and field teams had quite a weekend. After an unscored Denison meet, the Tiger women finished fourth at Wilmington and finished sixth at the North Coast Athletic Conference combined events championship at Oberlin, while the men were seventh at Wilmington and topped the field at the NCAC combined meet.
Men's competitor senior Tim Uher (Granville, Ohio/Pickerington North) took home first-place honors at the NCAC decathlon. He took first in the first in the long jump, shot put and 110-meter hurdles, and second in the 100-meter dash, high jump, discus, and javelin throw. Freshmanwhitney Goller (Findlay, Ohio/Liberty Benton) was third among 11 after Day 1 in the women's heptathlon thanks to a first-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles, but slipped to sixth on Day 2 despite a third-place finish in the long jump.
At the unscored Denison meet on Friday, April 23, the Tigers deployed a small crew of competitors. Sophomore Jarrett Cowgill (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) won the 800-meter run on a time of 1:55.90 and junior Kevin Frick (Columbus, Ohio/Grandview) took fourth place in the 3,000-meter run. The Tigers' 4-by-400 relay team also took second place.
At the Wilmington College Invitational on Saturday, the women medaled in multiple races and set one school record, highlighted by the first-place performances of freshman Amy Stamon (Louisville, Ky./Assumption) in the 5,000-meter run and junior Karen Bellanca (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) in the javelin throw. The four-by-400 relay team set a new standard by nearly a second with a first-place finish. In the 3,000-meter steeplechase sophomore Emma Crosby (Grand Rapids, Mich./Rockford) finished third, and sophomore Samantha Iden (Pickerington, Ohio/North) was second in the 1,500-meter run.
Sophomore Darcy Dubuc (Grand Haven, Mich./Grand Haven) and sophomoreCatherine Kuerbitz (Cleveland, Ohio/Regina) turned in second- and third-place finishes, respectively, in the 400-meter dash. Freshman Kaileigh Bible (Bellefontaine, Ohio/Bellefontaine) and freshman Paige Lloyd (Medina, Ohio/Cloverlead) also finished consecutively in third and fourth places in the pole vault.
For the men, freshman David Kolakowski (Rocky River, Ohio/Rocky River)medaled in third place at the pole vault and junior Thomas McElwee (Herriman, Utah/Blue Valley) was fourth in the javelin throw.
