SPRINGFIELD — Wittenberg junior Caroline Sproule (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy Orange) and freshmen Kylie Wilson (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty) and Sophia Pischalko (Granger, Ind./Penn) earned All-North Coast Athletic Conference honors in women's tennis for the 2023-24 season through balloting by the league's head coaches.
For singles play, Sproule was named to the All-NCAC First Team, Wilson was a Second Team selection, and Pischalko was a Third Team pick. Sproule and Wilson also earned recognition on the First Team for doubles play.
Additionally, third-year head coach Jacob Rankin and assistants John DeVito, Jim Minard and Rob Lehner were selected as the NCAC Coaching Staff of the Year. This marks the first time that Wittenberg has earned the NCAC's top coaching honor in women's tennis.
Sproule is now a four-time All-NCAC honoree, as she was named to the All-Conference Second Team in singles and First Team in doubles last season. She finished her junior season with a 29-12 overall record, including 14-6 in singles and 15-6 in doubles, in dual and tournament play. She played primarily at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles. She paired with Wilson at No. 1 doubles to post a 12-5 record.
Named the NCAC Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week on Feb. 27, Sproule was recognized as one of the top eight singles players in Region 5 in the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Regional Rankings for April 15.
Wilson capped her impressive freshman campaign with a 31-13 overall record, including 16-7 in singles and 15-6 in doubles, in dual and tournament play. She led the team in singles and overall victories. Playing mostly at No. 2, her 16 singles wins are tied for ninth all-time at Wittenberg.
Playing mostly at Nos. 3 and 4 singles and No. 2 doubles, Pischalko posted a 27-10 overall mark this season, including 12-6 in singles and 15-4 in doubles, in dual and tournament play.
Led by Rankin and his staff, the Tigers have displayed steady improvement over the past three seasons. After finishing 8-10 in 2021-22 and 10-10 in 2022-23, they opened this season with a 7-0 record and finished 14-5 overall, including a 4-2 mark in the NCAC. They posted their most single-season victories since finishing 19-6 in 2010-11 and capped the year advancing to the NCAC Tournament semifinals as the No. 3 seed.
