SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Wittenberg men's and women's tennis teams posted matching results on a busy day. Both defeated visiting Concordia (Mich.) by a wide margin on the courts at Albright Tennix Complex before moving indoors to Five Seasons in Dayton and losing to North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) rival Allegheny.
The split decision left the Tiger men with an overall record of 6-10, while the Tiger women are 3-11. The match against Allegheny did not count against the Tigers' NCAC West Division record.
Against Concordia, the Tiger women opened with two wins in the doubles competition. Sophomore Rayika Karachiwalla (Pune, India/International Baccalaureate (NY)) teamed up with freshman Alivia Livesay (Tryon, NC/Polk County) to win at No. 1 and freshmen Carli Milano (Beavercreek, Ohio/Carroll) and Sarah Frisch (Crescent Springs, Ky./Notre Dame) teamed up to win at No. 2.
In singles, Karachiwalla and Milano were straight set winners on the top two courts. Livesay won in three sets at No. 3 and Harting won in three sets at No. 6, while Frisch took the decision at No. 4 by a 6-4, 6-2 count.
The script was flipped later in the day. The match was moved indoors due to inclement weather, and Wittenberg's lone point came at No. 3 doubles as freshmen Nora Jacobson (Easton, Md./Easton) and Haley Jackson (Hilliard, Ohio/Bradley) took an 8-2 decision. In singles, the Tigers competed well across the lineup, highlighted by a three-set defeat at No. 2 for Milano, who dropped the 10-point tiebreaker by a 13-11 count.
