ORLANDO, Fla. - The Wittenberg Tigers continued their swing through the Sunshine State with a quartet of losses in a two-day span to Lake Forest, Ursinus, Juniata and Cornell College (Iowa).
The Spring Break trip started with a 7-2 win over Alfred. After the four defeats, the Tigers carry a 2-7 overall record into their Florida finale against Northwestern (Minn.) on Friday, March 11.
Against Lake Forest, the Tigers were swept in doubles before battling back in singles for a pair of victories at the No. 5 and 6 positions. Freshman Nora Jacobson (Easton, Md./Easton) won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 5 and freshman Haley Jackson (Hilliard, Ohio/Bradley) won at 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 at No. 6. Freshman Alyson Dust () came up just short of a third point for Wittenberg, losing in three sets at No. 4.
The Ursinus match went against Wittenberg at every position except No. 1 singles, where freshman Carli Milano (Beavercreek, Ohio/Carroll) pulled out a 6-4, 6-1 victory.
The next day against Juniata, Milano accounted for both points in a 7-2 loss. She won a third-set tiebreaker at No. 1 singles, and she teamed with freshman Alivia Livesay (Tryon, NC/Polk County) at No. 2 doubles for an 8-6 decision.
The busy two-day stretch concluded with a 9-0 defeat against Cornell. Jackson provided the highlights for the Tigers with a three-set loss at No. 6 singles and teaming with Jacobson for a 9-7 loss at No. 3 doubles.
