Tigers Drop Narrow 5-4 Decision At Cedarville
Alyson Dust wins at both singles and doubles, but Wittenberg comes up one point short against NCAA Division II scholarship opponent.
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers got a pair of wins from freshman Alyson Dust (San Bernardino, Calif./Cajon), but the host Cedarville Yellow Jackets pulled out the team victory by the most slim of margins.
The 5-4 decision moved Cedarville to 2-2 on the 2015-16 season, while Wittenberg fell to 1-2. The Tigers will wrap up the fall portion of the campaign with a road trip to North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) rival Oberlin on Saturday, Oct. 10.
Wittenberg and Cedarville split the first two doubles points, with the Tigers picking up a point at the No. 2 position as freshmen Sarah Frisch (Crescent Springs, Ky./Notre Dame) and Dust teamed up for an 8-5 victory. Cedarville pulled out a 9-7 decision at No. 3, however, and that momentum carried over to a very even singles competition.
Both teams won three singles matches. The Tigers picked up points at No. 2 behind freshman Carli Milano (Beavercreek, Ohio/Carroll), at No. 4 with Dust, and at No. 5 with junior Parisa Bennett (Chillicothe, Ohio/Chillicothe).
