Tigers Split A Pair Against IU-East and Central State
The weather finally broke and allowed Wittenberg to open the home portion of the spring schedule with a 5-4 loss to IU-East and a 9-0 win over CSU.
SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – The Wittenberg Tigers opened the home stretch of the 2012-13 season with their first two matches at the Albright Tennis Complex since last fall with a split against IU-East and Central State.
Wittenberg started out with a 5-4 loss to IU-East in a match that featured a trio of three-set singles matches, all won by the Tigers as they attempted to recover from a 2-1 deficit in the doubles competition. Despite the fine play of senior Kristin Wright (Akron, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) at No. 1 singles, freshman Morgan McDermott (Wheeling, W.Va./The Linsley School) at No. 2 singles and freshman Jaimie Whaley (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne) at No. 4 singles, the Tigers fell by a narrow one-point margin.
McDermott was the Tigers' lone double-winner in the match, as she paired with sophomore Megan Depew (Downingtown, Pa./West) for an 8-0 win at No. 3 doubles.
Against Central State, Wittenberg lost just two games in the entire match as the Tigers romped 9-0.
