Tigers Fall To Susquehanna But Topple Regis
The Wittenberg women’s tennis team fell to Susquehanna University but defeated Regis (Mass.) during Spring Break competition on Thursday, moving to 3-4 in dual matches this season.
HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Wittenberg women's tennis team fell by a score of 9-0 against Susquehanna University during Spring Break competition on Thursday, dropping to 2-4 in dual matches this season.
In No. 1 singles, senior Kristin Wright (Akron, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) put up a stiff fight, winning the first set 7-6 thanks to a 7-5 tiebreaker, but lost the second set 6-1 and the tiebreaker 10-2.
Freshman Jaimie Whaley (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne) fell at No. 3 singles by scores of 6-0 and 6-1, as did sophomore Meghan Depew (Downingtown, Pa./West) at No. 5.
In doubles action, Wright and Whaley fell in the No. 1 spot by a score of 8-5.
The Tigers were originally scheduled to return to the court tomorrow, March 8, for their final Spring Break match against Regis (Mass.) at 11:30 a.m., also in Hilton Head, but the match was moved up and played today.
The Tigers swept the doubles portion and claimed five of six singles contests behind wins from Wright, Kaitlin Payne (Carmel, Ind.), Whaley, Lexi Garza (Dayton, Ohio/Oakwood) and Depew from two to six, respectively.
