Tigers Celebrate Seniors With Win Over Wooster

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — The Wittenberg women's tennis team put the finishing touches on the home portion of the 2011-12 season with a convincing 9-0 victory over North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) rival Wooster.
The Tigers improved to 11-9 overall, although their record of 1-2 in the NCAC West Division held steady, while celebrating their stellar five-player senior class. Wooster is now 3-16 overall and 0-3 in the NCAC East.
Wittenberg swept the doubles courts, but it wasn't without a couple of close shaves. After sophomore Leah Ann Miller (Springfield, Ohio/Catholic Central) and freshman Georgia Bennett (Chillicothe, Ohio/Chillicothe) picked up an 8-0 win at No. 1, senior Anne Beauch (North Canton, Ohio/Massillon Jackson) and junior Kristin Wright (Akron, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) were pushed to the limit before winning 9-7 at No. 2, and seniors Maggie Stewart (Bay Village, Ohio/Magnificat) and Jackie Stevens (Columbus, Ohio/Watterson) won 8-6 at No. 3.
Miller made it a perfect day, winning by a 6-0, 6-0 score at No. 1 singles. She was followed into the win column by senior Alex Cummins (New Lebanon, Ohio/Dixie) at No. 2, Bennett at No. 3, Wright at No. 4, Stewart at No. 5 and senior Kacia Nolan (Indianapolis, Ind./Speedway) at No. 6.
The Tigers will close out the 2011-12 regular season with a pair of matches at Walsh on Saturday, April 21. That will be followed by the annual NCAC Tournament April 27-29.
