SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — The Wittenberg women's tennis team made it a clean sweep at the Albright Tennis Complex, easily cruising past Transylvania and Indiana University-East by matching 9-0 scores.
The wins evened the Tigers' overall record at 7-7 on the 2011-12 season.
Wittenberg started off with a big win over Transylvania, the top team in the fall 2011 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament. The Tigers lost almost as many games (8) in three doubles matches as they did in the six singles matches (11).
Sophomore Leah Ann Miller (Springfield, Ohio/Catholic Central) led four double-winners in the match after registering wins at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles. She was a 6-0, 6-0 singles winner after registering an 8-3 victory in doubles with seniorAnne Beauch (North Canton, Ohio/Massillon Jackson).
In the nightcap, the Tigers were aided by forfeits at the No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles positions. Miller, senior Alex Cummins (New Lebanon, Ohio/Dixie) and freshman Georgia Bennett (Chillicothe, Ohio/Chillicothe) were all double-winners in the match.
