Tigers Pick Up Key NCAC Win Over OWU
The Wittenberg Tigers gained some much-needed late-season momentum with a 6-3 North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) victory over visiting Ohio Wesleyan.
SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — The Wittenberg Tigers gained some much-needed late-season momentum with a 6-3 North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) victory over visiting Ohio Wesleyan.
The win moved Wittenberg to 12-3 overall on the 2010-11 season, compared to 3-7 for the Battling Bishops. Ohio Wesleyan is now 1-2 in the league, while the Tigers evened their record at 1-1, heading into a busy stretch of four non-conference matches in six days.
Wittenberg won two of three doubles matches to take early control of the match. In the singles competition, the Tigers were straight-set winners at the Nos. 1, 2, 5 and 6 positions.
Freshman Leah Ann Miller (Springfield, Ohio/Catholic Central) was a double-winner in the match, teaming with freshman Emma Bilyeu (Terre Haute, Ind./Vigo)for 9-7 win at No. 2 doubles before earning a convincing 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles. Senior Jayne Miely (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) paired with seniorRachel Bundy (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) to win at No. 3 doubles, and then Miely was a winner at No. 2 doubles and Bundy picked up the decision at No. 5 singles.
