Tigers Lose NCAC Opener To Denison

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — The Wittenberg Tigers opened North Coast Athletic Conference action with a 9-0 loss to visiting Denison.
The loss dropped Wittenberg to 11-3 overall on the season, while Denison, the fifth-ranked team in the nation and the second-ranked team in the Great Lakes Region, improved to 8-3.
The match started with a doubles sweep for the Big Red, despite a strong showing for Wittenberg at the No. 2 position. Freshmen Leah Ann Miller (Springfield, Ohio/Catholic Central) and Emma Bilyeu (Terre Haute, Ind./Vigo) battled to an 8-5 loss.
Three of the singles matches were shutouts. Wittenberg's best showing came at the No. 3 position, where junior Anne Beauch (North Canton, Ohio/Massillon Jackson) fell by scores of 6-2, 6-2.
Wittenberg is now off for nearly a week before starting a stretch of six matches in 12 days against Central State on Monday, April 4.
