DELAWARE, Ohio — Sparked by a doubles sweep, the Wittenberg Tigers posted a convincing North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) West Division road win at Ohio Wesleyan, 8-1.
The win moved the Tigers to 9-6 overall and 1-1 in the NCAC West. Ohio Wesleyan dropped to 3-8 overall and 0-2 in the conference.
The end team result may have been somewhat lopsided, but the individual match results were anything but. Two of the three doubles matches were closely contested, but Wittenberg prevailed. Of note was the 9-8 win by sophomore Anne Beauch (North Canton, Ohio/Massillon Jackson) and senior Emily Nash (Hilliard, Ohio/Davidson) at No. 1 doubles.
Nash added a 7-5, 6-2 victory at No. 3 singles, one of four straight-set singles wins for the Tigers. Combined with a three-set win by junior Jayne Miely (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington), Wittenberg captured five of the six singles matches. Miely was the team's other double-winner, as she teamed up with sophomore Jackie Stevens (Columbus, Ohio/Watterson) to win at No. 2 doubles.
