HILTON HEAD, SC — Thanks to inclement weather that created scheduling nightmares for organizers of the annual Spring Break invasion of college tennis teams on Hilton Head island, the Wittenberg Tigers worked overtime before falling to St. Lawrence University, 7-2.
The match was started on Wednesday, March 10, but rain interrupted it. After weather wreaked havoc on Thursday's schedule — and caused a cancellation of Wittenberg's scheduled match against Tiffin — the two teams returned to the court on Friday, March 12.
A doubles sweep by St. Lawrence, including a pair of hard-fought 9-7 decisions at the Nos. 2 and 3 courts, proved too much for the Tigers to overcome. In singles play, senior Emily Nash (Hilliard, Ohio/Davidson) was a 6-4, 6-1 winners at No. 3, while junior Rachel Bundy (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) picked up the win at No. 6. Junior Jayne Miely (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) just missed joining them on the winning side of the ledger, losing a tiebreaker 11-9 to decide the third set at No. 2.
