DAYTON, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers opened the spring 2009 season with a deceiving 5-2 loss at NCAA Division I neighbor Wright State in a match played indoors at the Five Seasons Tennis Center.
Wittenberg's points were earned at the No. 5 and No. 6 singles positions by freshmen Alexandra Cummins (New Lebanon, Ohio/Dixie) and Jackie Stevens (Columbus, Ohio/Watterson) respectively. Cummins was pushed to a decisive 10-point tiebreaker after splitting the first two sets, while Stevens was a 7-5, 6-2 victor. At the aforementioned No. 1 singles spot, senior Allison Earhart (Muncie, Ind./Yorktown) won a second-set tiebreaker to push the match to the deciding 10-point tiebreaker, which she lost 10-6.
Earhart did not leave Dayton empty-handed, however, as she teamed with freshman Maggie Stewart (Bay Village, Ohio/Magnificat) at No. 3 doubles for an 8-2 win.
