SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — By the slimmest of margins, the Wittenberg women's tennis team captured third place in the 2006 North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament. On Friday, the fourth-seeded Tigers narrowly escaped fifth-seeded Oberlin, 5-4, thanks to a pair of tiebreaker victories from senior Kristyn Russell in singles and doubles. After a loss to eventual champion Denison, the Tigers came back on Saturday to claim another 5-4 win, this time against third-seeded Ohio Wesleyan, with sophomore Amanda Williams playing the key role with a come-from-behind three-set singles victory.
The Wittenberg University men's and women's tennis teams have a great deal of talent and experience, which Head Coach Dave Engle hopes will develop into a winning combination by the end of the 2005-06 season.
