Tigers Celebrate Seniors Then Tie Kenyon, 1-1
Springfield, OH - Wittenberg Women's Soccer secured a solid 1-1 draw against North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) opponent Kenyon on a chilly Friday night. The tie moves the Tigers to a 6-1-6 overall record and a 2-0-2 mark in conference play.
As the game got underway, the Owls had appeared to control possession early, but by the 15-minute mark, the Tigers began to find their rythm. Wittenberg outshot Kenyon 5-3 in the first half, which paid off with a goal in the 34th minute from NCAC's second-leading goal-scorer, Sarah Deaton (Monroe, OH / Monroe). While the Tigers' offense capitalized with a goal, the defensive backline consistently shut down the Owls before they could challenge goalkeeper Lily Winkle (Cynthiana, KY / Harrison Country). On the two occasions Kenyon managed shots on goal, Winkle came up with the saves.
Both teams came out strong to start the second half. However, Kenyon found the back of the net in the 58th minute to even the score at 1-1. The Tigers didn't back down, controlling much of the possession and outshooting Kenyon 8-3 in the half, battling relentlessly until the final whistle but ultimately unable to come up with the game-winner.
The match also doubled as Wittenberg's Senior Day, celebrating the program's seven graduating players; Elizabeth Wile (Dublin, OH / Hillard Davidson), Ashley Green (Lewis Center, OH / Olentangy), Olivia Kuhner (Winston Salem, NC / RJ Reynolds), Alex Hill (Powell, OH / Olentangy Liberty), Leah Rocchetta (Fairfield, OH / Fairfield), Courtney Lindgren (Maineville, OH / Kings), Kate Mizer (Pickerington, OH / Pickerington North), and Annabel Blum (Cincinnati, OH / Cincinnati Country Day School).
