Tigers Cruise Past DePauw With Convincing 4-0 Victory
Springfield, OH - Wittenberg Women's Soccer put together on an outstanding performance at Edwards-Maurer Field on Wednesday, Oct. 8th, storming past North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) rival DePauw in a 4-0 shutout.
It took the Tigers about 20 minutes to find the initial breakthrough as Abby Borland (Dayton, OH / Fairmont) found the back of the net to open the scoring. Roughly 15 minutes later, Caroline Thomas (Perrysburg, OH / Perrysburg) added another to extend the lead to 2-0. The Tigers didn't slow down before the half as Ava Otey (Columbus, OH / Olentangy Orange) struck six minutes later, followed quickly by a goal from Olivia Gillum (Hamilton, OH / Ross), assisted by Piper Williams (Lebanon, OH / Lebanon). Wittenberg entered halftime firmly in control with a 4-0 lead.
The second half was much quieter than the first, as both teams battled for possession but were unable to capitalize on their chances. Despite the lack of scoring, Wittenberg continued to dictate the tempo, maintaining strong defensive organization and crisp ball movement. The Tigers outshot DePauw 12-6 in the game, consistently applying pressure in the attacking third.
With the win, Wittenberg maintained its position atop the NCAC standings at 2-0-0 after outscoring its first two league opponents, Oberlin and DePauw, by an 8-1 margin. The win over DePauw avenged Wittenberg's loss to the Indiana Tigers in the 2024 NCAC Tournament title game, and it improved the Ohio Tigers to 6-1-4 overall on the 2025 season.
