Tigers Welcome Eight Recruits In Class of 2019
Head Coach Matt Fannon has announced the addition of eight student-athletes to the Wittenberg women's soccer program.
Springfield, Ohio — Wittenberg University Women’s Soccer Head Coach Matt Fannon has announced that eight student-athletes will be joining the Tiger program in August 2015.
The new recruits join a team that compiled records of 8-8-1 overall and 4-4-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC), good for fourth place in the final regular season standings. The Tigers are expected to return 18 letterwinners from a squad that reached the NCAC Tournament semifinals in 2014.
Wittenberg opens the 2015 season with a road game against Thomas More at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1. The NCAC portion of the campaign will begin with a game at defending league champion Kenyon at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26.
The new recruits are:
- Missy Bernhardt (Hamilton, Ohio/Fairfield) – Midfielder; second-team all-conference selection in 2014; played club soccer for Fairfield Optimist.
- Gabby Bond (Batavia, Ohio/Batavia) – Forward/Midfielder; team’s Offensive MVP two years; four-time all-league honoree; 2014 All-Southwest District; played club soccer for Cincinnati Soccer Alliance.
- Emma Box (Springfield, Ohio/St. Paris Graham) – Defender; three-time first-team all-conference; played club soccer for Metro Corragio Premier.
- Shannon Brueck (Loveland, Ohio/Milford) – Midfielder; two-time all-conference honoree; played club soccer for Cincinnati Soccer Alliance.
- Megan Davis (Canal Winchester, Ohio/Pickerington Central) – Defender/Midfielder; Team’s Defensive MVP three times; first-team all-league three times; two-time all-region performer; played club soccer for Ohio Premier.
- Caylie Surrena (Crestwood, Ky./Oldham County) – Defender/Midfielder; two-time all-region honoree; member of U16 Chicago Fire Elite US team in 2013.
- Emily Thomas (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) – Defender; ran for state champion cross country team in 2014; played club soccer for Metro Coraggio Premier.
- Taylor Vaughn (Fort Thomas, Ky./Highlands) – Forward/Midfielder; honorable mention all-state; 2014 Team MVP; played club soccer for Kings Hammer.
“I am pleased to welcome this outstanding group of young women to the Wittenberg women’s soccer program,” Fannon said. “I look forward to working with them over the next four years and helping them succeed both academically and athletically.”
