CLEVELAND, Ohio - One year after the Wittenberg Tigers shocked Case Western with an overtime goal to claim a tense 1-0 victory at Edwards-Maurer Field, the Spartans turned the tables with a victory by the same score on their home turf.
Case Western scored at the 87:03 mark and held on for a 1-0 victory to improve to 2-1 on the season. Wittenberg fell to 1-2.
The Spartans held a narrow 11-7 advantage in shots, although just one Wittenberg attempt actually was on frame. That was credited to junior Kate Burns (Granger, Ind./Penn).
Burns was one of seven different Tigers to take a shot in the game. At the other end of the field, Wittenberg's defense played well, backstopped by freshman goalkeeper Alexa Murrietta (Las Vegas, Nev./Shadow Ridge).
The Tigers return to action Tuesday, Sept. 9, at home against Heidelberg. First kick is scheduled for 7 p.m.
