Tigers drop 14-10 decision to Trine in Season Opener
SPRINGFIELD, OH – In a high-scoring affair, it looked like the team with the final possession was going to be the one to come out victorious in Wittenberg's women's lacrosse match against Trine on Sunday, Feb. 23, inside the Steemer, part of the Health, Wellness & Athletics Complex.
It was the season opener for both teams, and it was a dandy with each team mostly matching the other goal by goal through the first three quarters. However, Trine's defense stiffened in the late going, and the Thunder's offense hit paydirt a few more times in the fourth quarter to defeat Wittenberg, 14-10, in the non-conference match. Wittenberg goes to 0-1 on the season and Trine to 1-0.
After scoring 10 times through the first three quarters, Wittenberg was shut out in the final period. But numerous players got in on the scoring action with four registering two goals each and two others tallying one apiece.
