Slow Start Dooms Tigers Against NCAC Rival Wooster

WOOSTER, Ohio - In the last 33 minutes of Saturday's game at the College of Wooster, the Wittenberg Tigers held a 5-4 edge. Problem is, the Tigers already trailed 7-0 as the Scots rolled to an 11-5 North Coast Athletic Conference victory.
The Tigers dropped to 2-7 overall and 0-4 in the NCAC, while Wooster is now 5-3 overall and 2-0 in the conference.
After trailing 7-1 at halftime, the Tigers managed to make things interesting with three straight goals to open the second half. But Wooster scored four of the last five over the final 21:27 of the game.
Junior Amber Cupples (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster) put together a fine game in her hometown, scoring three goals. Senior Michelle Hanners (New Albany, Ohio/Columbus School for Girls) and sophomore Beth Vonderbrink (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame)added one score each.
Vonderbrink topped the squad in ground balls with four and Cupples and Vonderbrink shared the top spot with three draw controls apiece. In goal, junior Sarah Zane (Hilliard, Ohio/Davidson) turned in a fine performance as she recorded 15 saves.
