Wittenberg Places 24th At Loaded Jekyll Island Invitational
The Wittenberg Tigers stepped into the big-time of NCAA Division III golf and came away with a 24th place finish in the Jekyll Island Invitational, hosted by Oglethorpe College.
JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. - The Wittenberg Tigers stepped into the big-time of NCAA Division III golf and came away with a 24th place finish in the Jekyll Island Invitational, hosted by Oglethorpe College.
It was Wittenberg's first competititon since the end of the fall 2007 season, and it included many of the top teams in the division. Even with the overall team finish, Wittenberg picked up several solid individual performances.
Junior Jennifer Petro (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart) picked up right where she left off four months ago, shooting a three-day total of 260 to finish 50th. She shot 84 and 83 on the first two days before dropping back a bit on Day 3 with a 93.
Sophomore Kimberleigh McClure (Dublin, Ohio/Scioto) was next for the Tigers with a 287, good for 105th place in a field of more than 140 golfers. FreshmanAnna Bencriscutto (Oro Valley, Ariz./Ironwood Ridge) added a 296, good for 121st place.
The Tigers return to action Saturday at Mount Union. That starts a busy five-week stretch to close the 2007-08 campaign.
