Four Tigers Score in Double Figures to Down Capital
Columbus, OH - In their last game before a break for the Christmas holiday, Wittenberg Women's Basketball overcame a tie after the first quarter and never looked back, defeating the Capital Comets on their home floor by a final score of 64-55. The win was the Tigers' sixth straight, moving their record to 8-2, while Capital moved to 8-4 on the season.
In the win, senior Karsen Karlblom (Crystal Lake, IL / Prairie Ridge) dropped 20 points for the second time in as many games, following her 26-point explosion against Webster. Karlblom opened the scoring for both teams, hitting a three to start the game, and Madi Barnett (Cincinnati, OH / Kings) followed up with four points to give the Tigers a 7-0 lead. The offense soon went cold for Wittenberg and the Comets got hot, scoring eight unanswered to take the lead halfway through the quarter. After finding themselves down seven, the Tigers held Capital scoreless for the remainder of the first and the Tigers found their footing to finish the quarter tied at 16.
In the second, the Tiger defense stepped up and held the Comets to only nine points while scoring 18 themselves, seven of which came from sophomore Molly Mossing (Cedarville, OH / Cedarville). With the offensive onslaught, Wittenberg seized a 34-25 heading into the locker room.
The Tiger defense stifled Capital in the third quarter once again, holding them to only eight points and dropped 12 to extend their lead. As they took their 13-point lead into the fourth quarter, the Comets looked to overcome the deficit, scoring 22 and cutting the Tiger lead to only four with just under four minutes remaining. Wittenberg answered with a layup from Karley Moore (Tipp City, OH / Bethel) and a Karlblom three before she and Barnett combined for six points from the free throw line to close the game on a four-point run.
