Wittenberg upends Kenyon to Remain Perfect in NCAC Play

GAMBIER, Ohio - The Wittenberg women's basketball team continued its impressive march through the North Coast Athletic Conference Tuesday night with a 70-57 victory over one of its closest challengers, Kenyon. The road victory improved the Tigers to 10-0 in the NCAC and 15-4 overall and kept the defending NCAC regular season champions three games clear of their nearest pursuers.

Wittenberg never trailed in the game and led by as many as 21 points early in the second half. Kenyon, which fell to 9-10 overall and 4-7 NCAC, shot the ball well but could not overcome 32 turnovers, which were converted into 34 points for the Tigers.

The Tigers were led offensively by senior forward Tiffany Keller (Massillon, Ohio/Tuslaw) and senior guard Stephanie Campbell (South Charleston, Ohio/Southeastern), both with 12 points each, and senior center Rebecca Meers (Moline, Ill/Moline), who finished with 11 points. They had some trouble breaking away from Kenyon in the early going, but an 18-3 run late in the half boosted Wittenberg to a 31-15 lead, an advantage that stood at 39-29 at halftime.

Keller took charge in the second half, sinking four field goals in the first four minutes, lifting the Tigers to a 55-34 lead. For the game, Wittenberg committed just 17 turnovers, to Kenyon's 32, and the Tigers shot 47 percent from the field. They also won the rebounding battle 29-26.

That leads to a busy weekend for the Tigers, beginning with a rare Friday evening date. The Hiram Terriers come to the HPER Center at 6 p.m., followed just 20 hours later by the Allegheny Gators on Saturday at 2 p.m. Both games are scheduled for broadcast by WULM 1600 AM. A pair of wins this weekend will bring Wittenberg within one game of clinching a share of the NCAC regular season title and home court advantage for the NCAC tournament for a second consecutive year.
