Tiger Softball Team and 15 Athletes Earn Scholar-Athlete Honors
2024-25 Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete release
Louisville, KY - The NFCA announced the 2024-25 Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete Honors. Wittenberg Softball earned team honors with a GPA of 3.670, which makes the Tigers one of the top 40 programs in NCAA Division III. Worcester Polytechnic Institute topped Division III with a 3.830 GPA. To earn team honors, a team must have a team GPA over 3.00.
Along with team honors, a whopping 15 Tiger student-athletes earned individual scholar-athlete honors by finishing the season with a GPA of 3.50 or higher. The athletes to earn scholar-athletes are graduate students Julia Burch (Dublin, OH / Dublin Jerome), Hanna Ecker (Heath, OH / Heath), Shannon Flaherty (Burlington, KY / Saint Henry District) and Meghan McCans (Arcanum, OH / Arcanum), senior Diana Quevedo (La Quinta, CA / La Quinta), juniors Kayla Drake (Wilmington, OH / Clinton Massie), Audrey Fyffe (Springfield, OH / Kenton Ridge), Julie Hall (Powell, OH / Bishop Watterson) and Kaela May (Tipp City, OH / Tippecanoe). The sophomores who earned honors are Kyleigh Bartlett (Beavercreek, OH / Beavercreek), Rebekah Giel (Amelia, OH / West Clermont) and Kirsten Wright (Springfield, OH / Kenton Ridge) and freshmen Ryleigh Johnson (Springboro, OH / Springboro), Madison Millington (Westerville, OH / Westerville South) and Kennedy Reed (Lewis Center, OH / Olentangy Orange).
The Easton/NFCA rankings and honors recognize the academic prowess of softball teams across the NFCA's membership categories. NCAA Division III led the way with 2,565 student-athletes earning a 3.5 GPA or higher for 2023-24. NCAA Division I followed with 2,544, and NCAA Division II was third with 2,179. NAIA and junior colleges came in with 1,010 and 895 student-athletes, respectively for at total of 9,199 student-athletes.
The Tigers finished this past season with a 27-14 record and placed fourth in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) with an 8-6 record under head coach Ashley Goodwin and assistant coach Dan Davis. Following the fourth-place finish, the Tigers advanced to the NCAC Tournament for the second consecutive year and 15th time in program history.
