Tigers Nearly Sweep Wilmington, Settle For Split
SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — The Wittenberg softball team held off Wilmington for a 2-1 win in game one of a Tuesday doubleheader and nearly cameback in game two for the sweep, but the Quakers returned fire and took the conclusion by a 3-2 score. The Tigers moved to 6-10 on the season.

Senior Brooke Boswell (Hamilton, Ohio/Fairfield) earned a complete-game win in the early contest, allowing only a lone home run to the Quakers. She allowed only four hits in her most impressive outing this year, and the home run came only after six innings of stunning work that included four strikeouts against just one walk.
The Tigers' lineup brought across two runs, one each courtesy senior Amanda Delagrange (Akron, Ohio/Firestone), the eventual game-winning run in the sixth, and Boswell herself in the first inning. Sophomore Jessica Snyder (Northfield, Ill./New Trier) went 2-for-3 with a run scored.
In a surprise move, Head Coach Becky Hall tabbed Boswell as the starter for game two. Less of surprise was Boswell's again impressive performance. She threw 5-2/3 innings and was only touched by a home run. She held Wilmington to three hits and two walks against four strikeouts.
In total, Boswell pitched 12-2/3 innings and allowed only seven hits, two runs and three walks, while fanning eight Quakers. Boswell was replaced by senior Melisa Shock (Bellbrook, Ohio/Bellbrook) in the sixth after giving up the home run. Shock completed the game, allowing two runs to score thought she gave up just one hit.
After five scoreless innings, Wilmington broke the 0-0 stalemate with three runs in the sixth. Wittenberg answered with two in the bottom half thanks to RBI hits from Snyder and senior catcher Emily Rudman (West Lafayette, Ind./West Lafayette), but came up one run short. Neither team scored in the seventh.
The Tigers next play at 3:30 p.m. at Transylvania on Thursday, April 1, in a doubleheader rescheduled from Thursday, March 25. The original date was scratched due to rain.
