Wittenberg Falls By A Run To La Verne
The Wittenberg Tigers put a bow on their first-ever Spring Break trip to California with a tough 3-2 defeat at the hands of La Verne, the third nationally ranked team on Wittenberg's schedule in the first eight games. The loss dropped the Tigers to 1-7 on the trip with seven straight losses to conclude it.
ORANGE, Calif. - The Wittenberg Tigers put a bow on their first-ever Spring Break trip to California with a tough 3-2 defeat at the hands of La Verne, the third nationally ranked team on Wittenberg's schedule in the first eight games. The loss dropped the Tigers to 1-7 on the trip with seven straight losses to conclude it.
La Verne scored first, taking the lead in the first inning on a double, an error and a sacrifice fly. But Wittenberg battled back with two runs on four hits in the third inning. Freshman Sarah Fetters and senior Ashley Lands scored the runs on RBI hits by sophomores Stephanie Zorn and Erin Collinsworth.
La Verne tied it with an unearned run in the sixth inning and then ended the game with a run in the seventh. After Wittenberg recorded the second out at the plate in the inning, another single produced the game-winner for La verne.
Senior Norah Gillam went the distance on the mount, allowing two earned runs on seven hits and two walks in the game.
