Wittenberg Men’s Volleyball Completes Weekend Sweep of MCVL Teams
SPRINGFIELD, OH. – Picking up their second sweep in a row over a Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League (MCVL) rival, Wittenberg's Men's Volleyball took care of business, posting a 3-0 victory over visiting Baldwin Wallace on Saturday, March 28, at Pam Evans Smith Arena, part of the Health, Wellness & Athletics Complex.
Amid a seven-match MCVL run, the Tigers are looking great on the court in a very important part of the season. They have now won seven in a row with two matches to go in the regular season against Wabash and Spalding, both conference teams.
Blocking and key kills were the difference in their match against Baldwin Wallace, as the Tigers collected 16 total blocks and outhit the Yellow Jackets, .278 to .167, to pick up the win in scores of 25-21, 25-23, and 25-16. Witt is now 4-5 in the all-time series against Baldwin Wallace.
With the win, Wittenberg goes to 17-5 overall and 6-1 in the conference to remain in a three-way tie at the top of the MCVL. Calvin and Trine also have just one loss, while Wabash and Baldwin Wallace, now 16-6 on the season, both have three losses.
Even more impressive, Wittenberg has been spreading out the stats, both offensively and defensively, with numerous players contributing good numbers. Eli Halverson (Hamilton, OH / Badin), who is just 12 kills away from 1,000 in his career, again led the team in that department with nine in the match on 19 total attacks for a .421 hitting percentage and 10 points. He and Jake Downs (Cincinnati, OH / Milford) also led the team in digs with nine each, while Michael Yurk (Indianapolis, IN / Bishop Chatard) tallied eight more.
Reese Monnin (Xenia, OH / Carroll) and Harrison Mitchell (Dublin, OH / Scioto) each led the team in blocks with five apiece, while Zach Newton (Morgantown, IN / Franklin Community) added three along with seven digs. Mitchell also had eight kills on 14 total attacks for a .429 hitting percentage, along with 11 points. Monnin and Reed each added six kills.
Carson Hill (Liberty Township, OH / Lakota East) led the team in assists with 16, and Gavin Hagerty (Fishers, IN / Fishers) added 14 assists.

- Wittenberg had 38 kills on 100 total attacks for a .270 hitting percentage, along with 35 assists, one service ace, 44 digs, and 16 blocks.
- Baldwin Wallace had 38 kills on 108 total attacks for a .167 hitting percentage, along with 36 assists, two service aces, 44 digs, and four blocks.
