Wittenberg Men’s Volleyball Falls to Baldwin Wallace in MCVL Tourney
ALLIANCE, OH — Wittenberg Men's Volleyball saw its season come to a disapointing conclusion on Friday, April 11, with a 3-1 loss to Baldwin Wallace in the semifinals of the Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League (MCVL) Tournament at the University of Mount Union's Timken Gymnasium, part of the McPherson Academic & Athletic Complex.
Things started out well for the Tigers, who captured the first set 25-20. However, Baldwin Wallace, the preseason conference favorite and a nationally ranked squad for most of the 2025 season, responded by taking the next three sets by scores of 25-15, 28-26, and 25-13 to capture the win and move on to the finals of the tournament. Baldwin Wallace, which lost to Wittenberg 3-1 during the 2025 regular season, advances to the championship match for the second time in program history.
Wittenberg, the No. 2 seed in the tournament after No. 1 Mount Union, finishes the season at 20-11 and 7-1 in the MCVL. Baldwin Wallace, the No. 3 seed in the tournament, improves to 19-10 overall after finishing 6-2 in the conference. The Tigers, which had won two straight conference regular season titles, trailed only Mount Union, which went undefeated in conference play at 8-0, in the MCVL standings.
Michael Yurk (Indianapolis, IN / Bishop Chatard) tallied 11 kills in the match to bring his season total to 315, in the process placing himself as the program record holder for career kills, surpassing Ashton Sellars, who had 841 between 2015-2019. Yurk, a junior, has now compiled 850 kills in just three seasons with the Tigers.
Team Leaders
- Adam Blair (West Chester, OH / Lakota West) and Michael Yurk (Indianapolis, IN / Bishop Chatard) each tallied 11 kills to lead the Tigers. Blair added four blocks to lead Wittenberg in that department as well.
- Carson Hill (Liberty Township, OH / Lakota East) led the team in assists with 37.
- Jake Downs (Cincinnati, OH / Milford) added eight digs to lead the team. Downs ends his junior season just 32 digs shy of the program's career record.
