SPRINGFIELD — As the league's regular-season champion, the Wittenberg men's volleyball team will host the 2024 Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League Tournament on April 12-13.
For the first time in program history, Wittenberg secured sole possession of the MCVL regular-season championship with an unblemished 9-0 record in league play. The Tigers are also hosting the MCVL Tournament for the first time in just their second appearance in program history.
Wittenberg shared the league title with Baldwin Wallace and Mount Union last season.
Trine, Mount Union and Baldwin Wallace all finished with 7-2 records in league play, making up the final three spots in the four-team MCVL Tournament field. Due to tie-breaker scenarios, Baldwin Wallace earned the No. 2 seed while Trine is the No. 3 seed. Mount Union rounds out the field as the No. 4 seed.
The same four teams qualified for last season's MCVL Tournament, which was hosted by Mount Union and won by Baldwin Wallace. Third-seeded Wittenberg fell 3-1 to second-seeded Baldwin Wallace in the semifinals in 2023.
To open the 2024 tournament, Baldwin Wallace will take on Trine in the first semifinal match at 4 p.m. on Friday, April 12. Wittenberg will then face Mount Union at 7 p.m.
The winners of each semifinal game will face off in the tournament championship game on Saturday, April 13, at 3 p.m.
The tournament champion will earn the MCVL's automatic bid to the 2024 NCAA Championships.
The Tigers closed the regular season with an overall record of 18-8, marking the third-most victories in the program's nine seasons.
