Hiram, Ohio – The Wittenberg University cruised to a three-set victory on Friday night, taking down the Cardinals of St. John Fisher [25-20, 26-24, 25-21]. The Tigers posted their highest attacking percentage since the season started, racking up 37 kills on 82 total attacks for a .256 attack rate. Wittenberg was led by Ashton Sellers and Deion Woodson each logging 10 kills on the night. Woodson tabbed an efficient night, converting on 17 attacks with just two errors for a .471 attack percentage. Wittenberg improves to 2-4 on the season, handing St. John Fisher just their second loss of the season.
SET ONE: Wittenberg would jump out to an early lead in the first set. The Tigers would force an early St. John Fisher timeout, after a Cardinal attack error made it 10-6 in favor of Wittenberg. Freshman Mason Moldovan would provide three of his six kills in the first set. The Tiger's took 22 attack attempts in the first set, connecting for 10 kills and making just three errors.
SET TWO: The nail-biting second set saw Wittenberg produce a .129 attacking percentage. The Tigers were able to convert on 31 attack attempts for 13 kills. Each side would come out exchanging points, going nearly point for point over the first 12 serves. Woodson would come out on the attack for the second set, logging the first kill and putting the first Wittenberg points up on the board.
SET THREE: Wittenberg would lock down the victory in the third set. Posting one of their best single-set attacking percentages of the season a .345, converting on 29 attacks for 14 kills. Sellers would record five of his ten kills in the third and final set of the match, including putting down the match point on the assist from Ross Russell. Russell would finish with 30 of the 33 Wittenberg assists on the night.
