Men's Volleyball Selected Ninth in MCVL Preseason Coaches' Poll
Wittenberg Men's Volleyball is one of six new teams in the MCVL in 2016.
NAPERVILLE, IL-- The Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League (MCVL) released the results of the 2016 preseason coaches' poll on Wednesday morning, tabbing the Wittenberg University men's volleyball team to finish ninth behind Loras College, and one point ahead of Fontbonne University.
Of the 14 teams competing in the MCVL, defending champion Carthage College was selected to repeat this season, garnering 169 points and 13 first-place votes, while Dominican University finished second with 151 points and Mount St. Joseph University rounds out the top-three, receiving 150 points and the remaining first-place vote.
Of the six new varsity program's added to the conference, Wittenberg finished third highest in the poll with 61 votes, behind seventh place North Central (93), and eighth place Loras College (68). Fontbonne University rounded out the top ten with 60 votes.
Fellow newcomers Marian University (57), Greenville College (48), Adrian College (38) and Olivet College (25) finish out the preseason poll.
The 2016 season opens on January 9. The MCVL portion of the schedule will begin on February 5, with the MCVL tournament slated for April 8-9 at the conference champion site.
First year Coach Evan Amstutz and the Tigers start their inaugural season at home against Olivet, January 22, as a part of the 2016 Wittenberg Quad.
