Men's Volleyball Caps Off Historic Weekend with Tournament Championship Victory
Men's Volleyball stood tall all weekend, defeating Hilbert College to take home the tournaments top prize.

Springfield, Ohio – History continued on Saturday as the Wittenberg men's volleyball team opened up the second day of the Wittenberg Quad with a win against Adrian College 3-0 in straight sets. The Tigers were led on the attack by Max Baker (Brownsburg, Ind./Brownsburg) and Justin Luby (Akron, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) with seven kills each. A break between matches allowed for Wittenberg to honor the National Runner-Up women's volleyball team, revealing their new banner hanging from the rafters of Pam Evans Smith Arena. When the Tigers returned to the court for the second match, Wittenberg defeated Hilbert 3-0 with Joel Sotos (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman) leading the way with 11 kills.
ADRIAN SET BY SET
- Wittenberg started strong again to open up the scoring against the Bulldogs to claim the first set 25-9.
- The Tigers claimed the second set 25-11, with an attacking percentage at .529.
- Luby set the pace on the day with a .778 attacking percentage, coming from 7 kills on nine attempts.
HILBERT SET BY SET
- The Tigers took straight sets from Hilbert 25-15, 25-20, 25-21 in their closest match of the weekend.
- Wittenberg finished the day with 35 total kills on 86 attempts, committing only 11 attacking errors.
- Sotos ended the match at an even .500 attacking percentage, finishing with 11 kills on 20 attempts.
- Senior Matt Briskey (Dublin, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) and freshman Charles Atkinson (Mount Vernon, Ohio/Mount Vernon) were also among a pair of Tigers who ended the day with .500 attacking percentage with at least five attempts.
TOP PERFORMANCES
- Atkinson finished the first match with seven digs.
- Wittenberg found two players in double digit digs against Hilbert, with Ross Russell (Akron, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) earning 10 and Sotos claiming 16.
