More Records Fall for Track and Field in West Virginia
HUNTINGTON, WV- Wittenberg's men's and women's track and field team sent some team members to the Marshall University Jewel City Invitational, where the Tigers took on a myriad of teams including multiple Division I programs.
On the weekend, the Tigers set two new school records. On Day 1, freshman Rebekah Case (Mansfield, OH / Lucas) finishing third in the pole after reaching a height of 3.65 meters to break the school record and take hold of the No. 22 spot in all of NCAA Division III. On the second day of competition, Kory Davis (Brookville, OH / Brookeville) set a new school record in the 60-meter hurdles as he took first place overall with a time of 8.10 seconds. That time ranks eighth nationally in Division III. Neal Godfrey (Columbus, OH / St. Francis DeSales) also broke into the top 25 nationally in the long jump as his third-place leap of 7.08 meters ranks 22nd in Division III.
Top 10 Finishes
- Libby Weisenberger (Collins, OH / Western Reserve) took eighth in the high jump, reaching a mark of 1.45 meters.
- Jeremiah Owusu (Columbus, OH / Thomas Worthington) finished tied for ninth in the men's high jump at 1.83 meters.
- Antonio Weaver (Columbus, OH / Independence) finished fifth in the long jump with a distance of 6.94 meters to reach the top 50 in Division III.
- Tiffany Hix (Prospect, OH / Elgin) took eighth in the pole vault, reaching 3.20 meters.
- Nick Farfoglia (Manchester, MD / Manchester Valley) took the top spot in the pole vault with a height of 4.10 meters.
- Zachary Callahan (Lebanon, OH / Lebanon) took second in the pole vault with a mark of 4.00 meters.
- Alex Couch (Howard, OH / Mount Vernon) finished eighth in the one mile with a time of 5:17.64.
- Abbey Danne (Johnstown, OH / Big Walnut) finished tenth in the 400 meters with a time of 58.94, breaking into the top 100 in Division III.
- Cameron Elliott (Springfield, OH / Springfield) finished fifth in the 200 meters in a time of 22.02 seconds, top 60 in Division III.
- Jack Kittle (Chagrin Falls, OH / Chagrin Falls) took sixth in the 200 meters in 22.07 seconds, top 70 in Division III.
- Elijah Simmons (Jacksonville, FL / Groveport Madison (OH)) finished ninth in the 200 meters in 22.37 seconds.
- The women's 4x400 meter relay team of Danne, Tyra Jackson (Lorain, OH / Lorain), Tymeerah De'Armond (Springfield, OH / Springfield), and Hallie Haines (Hillsboro, OH / Fairfield) finished in 4:13.01, good for eighth place.
- The men's 4x400 meter relay of Elliott, Kittle, Davis and Dashawn Seye (Centerville, OH / Centerville) took third with a time of 3:18.18.
- The 4x400 meter relay team of Sky Howard (Springfield, OH / Kenton Ridge), Owen Bier (Elyria, OH / Midview), Adam Veotte (Cincinnati, OH / Sycamore) and Xavier Allen (Tipp City, OH / Tippecanoe) finished ninth in 3:30.53.
- Shareef Conateh (Columbus, OH / Home School) finished ninth in the triple jump at 11.93 meters.
- Bethany Allen (Greenup, KY / Russell) was seventh in the women's triple jump with a distance of 10.19 meters.
- AJ Sutherly (Marysville, OH / Marysville) was fourth in the weight throw with a toss of 15.38 meters.
- Max Green (Centerville, OH / Centerville) was tenth in the weight throw with a distance of 14.70 meters.
Next up the Tigers will travel to Ohio Wesleyan to compete at the OWU Open on Friday, Frebraury 13.
