SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — The Wittenberg Tigers welcomed one of the top teams in NAIA to the Albright Tennix Complex, but Walsh proved to be a rude guest, recording a convincing 8-1 victory.
The loss, in Wittenberg's first home outdoor competition since the fall, dropped the Tigers to 7-4 overall.
The Cavaliers, ranked No. 31 in NAIA currently, started off strong with a doubles sweep. They nearly duplicated the feat on the singles courts, but senior Rob Lehner (Westerville, Ohio/DeSales) spoiled the shutout with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 6 singles. No other Wittenberg player won more than six games in a singles match.
It was the start of a busy week for the Tigers as they play host to Transylvania and Capital, with a road trip to Division I Dayton sandwiched in between, over the next seven days.
