Wilmington, OH - Wittenberg Men's Soccer scored a goal in each half to take down Wilmington on Friday night, 2-0, and extend its season-opening unbeaten streak to nine.
The Tigers struck early with a goal in the opening minutes and added another late in the match on a free kick, despite playing most of the second half shorthanded due to a red card. Asher Donahue (Muncie, IN / Burris Laboratory School) opened the scoring just 3:17 into the game with his fifth goal of the season, off an assist by Collin LaVeck (Carroll, OH / Bloom-Carroll). Ever Zepeda (Los Angeles, CA / New Designs Charter) added the insurance goal in the 87th minute to secure the 2-0 victory. Zepeda's goal was a free kick after a Wilmington player was sent off with a red card.
Wilmington's 19 shots were not enough as Aidan Rice (Dublin, OH / Saint Charles) had nine crucial saves to preserve the shutout. The Tigers were able to capitalize on their 11 shots, scoring two goals.
With the win, the Tigers improved to 6-0-3, recording the sixth shutout of the season and extending its unbeaten streak to nine games. Wilmington fell to 7-2-1.
