Witt Men’s Lacrosse Drops Season Opener to Trine, 15-9
SPRINGFIELD, OH. – Wittenberg's men's lacrosse team turned in a valiant effort in their match against Trine on Saturday, Feb. 14, but fell short of a win in their first outing of the season, 15-9, in a non-conference match at Wittenberg.
The Tigers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period, but had trouble scoring in the next two frames, only finding the goal once in each of the second and third. Despite coming alive for five in the final period, Trine would hit paydirt more often, putting five on the board in the second, and four more in the third to go ahead 9-4 with three in the books. Trine outscored Wittenberg 6-5 in the fourth to secure the 15-9 victory.
Ty Harris (Cincinnati, OH / Sycamore), Travis Demsher (Santa Clarita, CA / West Ranch), and Dillon McKeigue (Olmstead Township, OH / St. Edward) each scored two goals for the Tigers, while Ethan Pac (Greenwood, IN / Cathedral), Jackson Lane (Findlay, OH / Findlay), and Matthew Patterson(Columbus, OH / Westerville South) each added another goal to lead the Tigers. Clay Habben (Shawnee, KS / Shawnee Mission Northwest) and Colten Simkins (Liberty Township, OH / Lakota East) led the team in ground balls with six each.
Pac led the team in assists with two. He also had five shots, three on goal. Demsher led the team in shots with eight total, three on goal, and Harris added seven, five on goal.
Goalkeeper Chase Singleton (Springboro, OH / Springboro) had 15 goals against him on 28 shots faced, registering 13 total saves on the day. Trine's goalkeeper tallied 11 saves.
With the loss, the Tigers fall to 0-1 on the season, while Trine goes to 1-0.
