Wittenberg Welcomes Jordan Shoger As New Assistant Coach
Former Tiger team captain and 2014 Wittenberg graduate returns to program in new role.
Springfield, Ohio – Wittenberg University Director of Athletics and Recreation Gary Williams has announced the hiring of Jordan Shoger, class of 2014, as the Tigers’ new assistant men’s lacrosse coach.
Shoger returns to the program after four years as a team member, including the 2014 season as one of the captains. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business management from Wittenberg in May 2014, and he also completed a minor in sports management.
“We are really happy to have Jordan on the coaching staff,” said Wittenberg Head Coach Jay Owen. “He has been a leader in the program the last four years, and I look forward to seeing him apply those same skills as a coach. He knows our team, he knows the university, and he knows what it will take for us to improve the program in the future.”
A native of Cleveland Heights, Ohio, earned three varsity letters as an attackman for the Tigers. After suffering a knee injury before his freshman year even started, Shoger bounced back to score 46 goals in his career in the Red & White, in addition to nine assists. He scored a career-high 25 goals as a full-time starter during his senior season in 2014. After the season, he was named the team’s most valuable offensive player and co-overall MVP.
The Tigers finished 10-5 overall a year ago, including a record of 4-3 in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC). Wittenberg advanced to the four-team NCAC Tournament for the first time in the event’s three-year history before bowing out to nationally ranked Denison in the semifinals. The Tigers have 27 letterwinners returning to the roster for the 2015 season, which opens at Hampden-Sydney on Saturday, Feb. 21.
