WOOSTER, Ohio — Seven days after a thrilling Senior Recognition Day victory over Colorado College, the Wittenberg Tigers were unable to keep the momentum going in a 12-2 loss at North Coast Athletic Conference rival Wooster.
The Tigers dropped to 6-6 overall and 1-4 in the NCAC. They were bidding for the program's first winning season since 1999, but Wooster, which improved to 8-3 overall and 2-2 in the NCAC, erased those hopes quickly.
After Wittenberg senior Bryan Arnold (Dublin, Ohio/Scioto) opened the scoring with a goal less than four minutes into the game, the Scots scored four times in each of the first two quarters and twice each in the third and fourth frames. The Tigers finally got back on the board with a goal inside of the final minute by freshman Tim Gates (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover).
The Scots outshot Wittenberg 35-25 and both teams' goaltenders recorded eight saves. The difference in the game was in specialty areas as Wooster was a perfect 3-for-3 in extra-man opportunities, compared to Wittenberg's 0-for-5. Wooster won the ground ball battle by a 40-27 margin and the Scots held a 12-6 edge in face-offs.
