SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers sent their senior class out in style Tuesday with a 16-3 triumph over visiting Washington & Jefferson.
The Tigers finished the 2006 campaign with a 6-7 overall record, the program's best win total and winning percentage since 2000, when Wittenberg went 7-7.
The 16-goal total was Wittenberg's highest of the season, matching the 16 posted just three days earlier at Oberlin. The offensive catalyst was senior Cory Windle, who capped a fine career in the Red & White with an eight-goal outburst. That scoring total is the third-highest in school history, just two off Jeff Mayer's 16-year-old record.
Windle added two assists as well to finish with a team season-high 10 points in the game. Sophomore Jon Van Vranken and freshman Sam Henderson each added two goals, while sophomore Brandon Hulett, junior Travis Moore, freshman James Hunter and junior Brandon Schwind each contributed one score to the attack.
In goal, junior Pat Garlock and sophomore Andy Shively combined for eight saves for the Tigers. Wittenberg outshot the Presidents by a whopping 52-17 as Windle led the way with a career-high 19.
